Believe in Yourself

Written by: Tom Wilson/Stephen Fearing/Suzie Vinnick

Careless love, never been so unkind
No matter how hard I try, I’ll never be you
I was younger then, feeling the years go by
Blowing through all the times I tried to live up to you

Believe in yourself, believe in yourself
Believe in yourself when you’ve got nothing

Careless love, learning to turn the page
Watching myself come of age in these changing times
I’ve been down there, haven’t we all before
Every lost generation runs wild

Mama said don’t you talk to strangers
They can put your faith in danger
Play the numbers and walk the line
Believe in yourself

Well Mama never had to eat off the street
Sleep alone with the shoes on her feet
I look at my reflection and say
Believe in yourself

In yourself, believe in yourself
Believe in yourself, believe in yourself
Believe in yourself when you’ve got nothing

Careless love

Looking for a Kiss

Written by: Tom Wilson/Stephen Fearing/Suzie Vinnick

Well it’s cold outside
What did you expect from Canada
So I’m walking home
Maybe I’ll end up at your front door

I’m looking for a kiss from you
I’m looking for a kiss from you
You’re sweet and you shine like chrome
I’m looking for a kiss on my way back home

Its closing time
All the taxi drivers know me by name
I’m one sheet going, and two sheets gone
I’d never say that you’re to blame

Just another fool under the moonlight
Trying to light a fire on this winter night

I’m looking for a kiss from you
I’m looking for a kiss, a kiss from you
You’re sweet and you shine like chrome
I’m looking for a kiss on my way back home
I’m looking for a kiss on my way back home
I’m looking for a kiss

Happy Here

Written by: Suzie Vinnick/Stephen Fearing

In the dark of night, you can taste the breeze
Hear the ocean sighing, there’s silver through the trees
Every leaf defined in shadows on the ground
All my senses sharpened
Like the blade of night has found me here
I am happy here

The moon was full tonight, high above the trees
Through the dark and light, the path it shows to me
As if to say that what I’m feeling isn’t what it seems
Safe within your arms but running in my dreams
And time, time laughs at me

‘Cause I’m happy here, am I happy here?
‘Cause I’m happy here, am I happy here?

When the morning comes in the eastern sky
And the stars go down, and the night birds fly
I’m walking out of darkness as I step out of the frame
You’re halfway in my heart but I’m halfway on the train
Like a song, sung and gone

Musicians:

SV – vocal, acoustic guitar, backing vocal
Stephen Fearing – resophonic guitar
John Dymond – upright bass

My Kind of Loneliness

Written by: Suzie Vinnick/Geordie Millar

It was bittersweet tonight seeing you sparkle and glow
On our moonlit sail across the waters of Loneliness Row

Effervescence in the black of the ocean
Made my heart skip across the water like a little stone
So light and alive
Then slowly sank to the bottom as I sailed home alone

My kind of loneliness
Is the kind that loves the nighttime open sky
Shooting stars fill it full when they pass by

I like to go sailing at night
My heart always gets tangled in the lines
There’s this deep dark hole that pulls me in
So I just float there, staring at the stars in the sky

The waves pull me out, my eye catches a gleam
Is that little stone still sinking?
Or can it rise up in the starlight
Carried with the current for wings

My kind of loneliness
Is the kind that loves the night-time open sky
Shooting stars fill it full

There’s a bridge that needs to be built
I’ll be stranded on this island
There’s a bridge that needs to be built

My kind of loneliness holds hope too tightly
A magnet, blood in the water
She likes to sail at night, all alone
Her heart always gets tangled in the lines
Tangled in the lines

My kind of loneliness
Is the kind that loves the night time open sky
Shooting stars fill it full when they pass by
When they pass by, shooting stars fill it full

Back on My Feet

Written by: Michael Johnston/Josh Finlayson/Suzie Vinnick

I’m giving you all my business
Doing the best I can
You’re doing the same to make it
Back and forth, you understand

Money we won’t be spending
Places we can’t afford
We’re like a downtown building
Beautiful and unexplored

Always trying to split the difference
Anyway to make ends meet
Lift me up from destitution
Pull myself back on my feet

Here’s something to make you happy
We don’t have to start again
‘Cause nobody’s getting younger
New beginnings never end

One day you’ll find, one day out of time

Always trying to split the difference
Anyway to make ends meet
Find the path to restitution
Pull myself back on my feet

SV – vocal, bass
Stephen Fearing – acoustic guitar, backing vocal

Prison of Shame

Written by: Suzie Vinnick

I spent the last week in a prison of shame
Even the warden knows my name
The guards shake their heads in heavy blame
My eyes are begging for freedom

I know my crime, I know it was wrong
I can carry the ball, but the chain’s so long
And it’s not too often that I fall
My only visitor has been regret

There are 3 words that could save me
3 words that hold the key
3 little words that could save me
Please forgive me, please forgive me

Musicians:

SV – vocal, piano
Kevin Breit – electric guitars
Kevin Fox – cellos

Steal a Piece

Written by: Suzie Vinnick

There’s a policeman on the corner
I’m going to do it when he can’t see
I’m gonna steal a piece of your heart
And hide it here

I liked the way you told me stories
I liked the way you talked to me
So I’m gonna steal a piece of your heart
And hide it here

I know it’s wrong to want to steal things
But it feels so right when you’re with me
I’ll just take a tiny little piece

I’d like to steal a piece of your heart
I’d like to carry it with me
I’m gonna steal a piece of your heart
And hide it here

Searching for safety in the wrong place
Searching for safety in your arms
Searching for safety in the wrong place
In your arms

I’d like to steal a piece of your heart
I’d like to carry it with me
Searching for safety in the wrong place
Maybe you’ll catch me…

SV – vocal, acoustic guitar, backing vocals

Butterflies and Sunflowers

Written by: Suzie Vinnick/Sharon Caissie/Stephen Fearing

Butterflies and sunflowers
All those beautiful things
Hear the cry of the blackbird calling
She sure knows how to sing

High in the sky wings pass me by
Flying home before night
On their way to my dreams and what I see
Is the kind of love that a simple heart brings

When I lie down in my big brass bed
And the night brings the sweet smell of rain
The way that my baby shakes that thing
‘Cause he’s so happy to see me again

And when I don’t know where I belong
And I can’t see where I’m going
It’s just one long line on an endless road
But it leads me to a new day rising

Musicians:

SV – vocals, acoustic guitar, acoustic solo
Stephen Fearing – backing vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar
John Dymond – bass
Gary Craig – drums, percussion
Kevin Breit – mandolin

Little One

Written by: Suzie Vinnick/Geordie Millar

Oh Little One, when you come home, I will rejoice
Oh Little One, I’ll be so glad
To hold you if only for a moment

To see the eyes of my own
Hear the sweet, sweet voice of a little one full grown
The flesh and blood I loved so alive
I’ve never lost the love that I felt so long ago

I have come to a place where my roots run wild
And I wonder and I long for a connection
When I see you I will feel so complete
When I see you if only for a moment

So if you hear the song in my heart
Silently sung to the stars
I pray we will someday again meet, I pray we will
I pray we will
And I will hold you, if only for a moment my sweet

Musicians:

SV – vocals, acoustic guitar, bass
Stephen Fearing – acoustic guitar, resophonic guitar

I’m Still Looking for You

Written by: Suzie Vinnick/Stephen Fearing/Josh Finlayson/Michael Johnston

In every bright eye, in every smile
I’m still looking for you

In the favor of time, from the kindliest souls
I’m still looking for you

I’m claiming them all, threading the whole
I’m still looking for you

When you’re so far away
You can’t repair what’s broken
And the memories are starting to fade
‘Cause I’m building on the cornerstone
Knowing that I’m not alone anymore

Walk a mile in my shoes, through the eyes of a child
I’m still looking for you
Every step of the way, every trial
I’m still looking for you

Is there more than the hearts left behind
Is there more than the love that we find

When you’re so far away
You can’t repair what’s broken
And the memories are starting to fade
‘Cause I’m building on the cornerstone
Knowing that I’m not alone anymore
Taking the halves and mending the whole

Musicians:

SV – vocal, Wurlitzer, backing vocals
Stephen Fearing – acoustic guitar, backing vocals, Hammertone
John Dymond – bass

One More Day

Written by: Tom Wilson, Stephen Fearing & Suzie Vinnick

Came along without a care and now
Why do I even try, is there anything left to say
Cut me down, I cut you loose, baby
I loved you from the start, I didn’t have to try

You’re a hard man to lose, but I can tell you why

I can’t waste my time cryin’
So you should go your own way
You can blame it all on me baby
I can’t wait one more day

You were just a star that landed
At the edge of my backyard
I just watched you glow
I never tried to pick you up or own you
I let you light my way
Now I have to let you go

You’re a hard man to lose, but I can tell you why

Every Saturday night needs a Sunday morning
When the sun comes up
You’ll turn and try to kiss me, will you miss me

I can’t waste my time cryin’
So you should go your own way
You can blame it all on me baby
I can’t wait one more day

Musicians:

SV – vocals, backing vocals
Stephen Fearing – acoustic guitar, electric guitar, backing vocals
John Dymond – bass
Gary Craig – drums, percussion

Fear’s Talking

Written by: Suzie Vinnick/Debra Alexander

I’m having my doubts; don’t think I can stay
Don’t know how to tell you face to face
I’ll steal through the darkness, find somewhere to hide
I’ll slip from your side; you’ll sleep through the night
I don’t like goodbyes

Fear has me broken, I hope you can see
It’s hard not to listen, when it’s talkin’ to me

My steps on the walk; my breath in the air
I hope you believe me; I still care
I’m fighting a whisper that’s starting to scream
Tells me I’m weak, unworthy and cheap
It’s tough to compete

So afraid to drag my heart through
Thorns and brambles, I get all tangled
I don’t want to be alone; I don’t want to be alone

Fear has me broken, please help me believe
I don’t have to listen, when it’s talkin’ to me

SV – vocals, Wurlitzer, backing vocals
Stephen Fearing – acoustic guitar
John Dymond – bass
Gary Craig – drums

Star Fall

Written by: Suzie Vinnick

The stars fell like raindrops
When the clouds sailed away
Leaving them no net to land in
I reached into the night and caught me a handful
They were shining and shimmering on my skin

Stars sizes of butterflies, pennies and bees
Bounced off the rooftops and covered the streets
Their glitter and glow lasted only a moment
Then the stars melted away

Nightfalls like these don’t come all the time
When the stars tumble down with such grace from the sky
And I feel so lucky that I got to catch ‘em
I just reached out my hand in the blink of an eye

The stars fell like raindrops
When the clouds sailed away
Leaving them no net to land in
I reached into the night and caught me a handful
Then the stars melted away

Musicians:

SV – vocal, Hammond organ
John Dymond – upright bass
Gary Craig – drums
Greg Leisz – pedal steel
Kevin Breit – electric guitar
